Mileage
We charge $ .40 a mile, round trip, to and from the facility and
any additional mileage while in town teaching (if over 80 miles).
We charge $ .55 a “loaded mile,” round trip, to tow our equip-ment trailer to a site. This charge is applied for classes where we provide the equipment for the class. We usually charge for only 1 vehicle, unless otherwise specified in the contract.
Meals
We charge $ 40.00 a day, per instructor, for meals and other expenses. This is based on our 6:1 instructor
to student ratio. If we bring an additional instructor trainee to the class, we take care of all of their expenses.
Lodging
* It is the contracting company’s responsibility to provide 1 motel room for every 2 instructors coming to teach the
class (3 instructors require a single and a double, etc.) These will be provided as per the contract. Usually the
same number of nights as the number of contracted days that a class is being held. If the class location is more
than 200 miles from Altoona, PA we may require another nights lodging.
Usually the room(s) must be available starting the night before the first day of the class. This is subject to the provisions set forth in the contract. The rooms should be reasonably close to your facility (15 miles or less if possible. If we must travel more than 15 miles to and from the motel, you will be charged for the additional mileage).
We do not require “the best rooms in town.” But, we do expect clean, comfortable, non-smoking rooms in a safe part of your community (i.e. Econo Lodge, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, a nice private motel, or even Motel 6).
* We do not book rooms and then charge you for them because . . . Over the years we have found that many fire departments, organizations, and rescue groups, have made “special deals” with nearby hotels and motels for instructors, speakers, and other folks.
Often you can get a much better deal on a room than we can. Therefore, we do not want to
book rooms and charge you higher prices. You also know the better motels, their availability,
and proximity to your training location. Therefore, as a courtesy to you we leave the
booking of rooms to those contracting for the class (you and your department).
