Hazardous Materials Courses
Hazardous Materials
First Responder 16 Hours - 12 to 30 Students
Prerequisite: Hazardous Materials - Awareness Level
This next step is designed for those who are usually the first ones on
scene. For those who might possibly be able to do something! Initially
designed for fire department rescue companies and engine companies, we
have also adapted this course for the on site squad or department. This
class teaches the average in plant response team, fire brigade, or
firefighter what to do, or what not to do. This course carries students
through, and beyond, the Haz-Mat Awareness Class.
This course will not only allow the in-plant team to better understand the intricacies of basic haz-mat problems, but it teaches common sense approaches to help find safe solutions. The knowledge from this course will allow the team to take care of many of the smaller, less serious incidents at the plant. It will teach them how to stop minor leaks, how to properly apply absorbents, how to stop small problems from becoming big problems. It will also reinforce the idea that some incidents just are not safe, and that the best course of action is to evacuate the plant and get the team out also. The course also teaches the team where they fit into the picture should a specialized Haz-Mat team have to be called in. The course teaches what their roles and their responsibilities will be. The course teaches how they will function to supplement a team possessing advanced training. |
