Caving & Climbing Courses
Rock & Roll
An introduction to intermediate rope and rock climbing skills. 16 - 18 Hours - 2 to 12 Students
Prerequisite: Rock On
This course begins where the first course ends. We begin with a brief
review of the procedures learned in ROCK ON. Then the student begins
the process of learning how to "really climb." This course builds a strong foundation for those who are thinking seriously about climbing on their own, in the future.
You'll get deeper into the nitty-gritty of climbing technique. You'll learn to climb more efficiently, how to conserve your strength for those times when it's most needed, and you'll learn how to rest. You'll learn about rock: what to look for, how to use it to your advantage, and what not to use (rotten rock). You'll learn more about rope handling. You'll get to use more equipment: different things, different types, alternative methods. You'll learn about the use of artificial anchors, a little about bolting (discussion only), and you'll learn about camming devices. You will learn more about your bond to the rock, climbing shoes. You will learn "lead climbing" techniques. This class will be taught on an artificial wall and on natural rock walls. We will progress at you own speed until we reach a level that's comfortable for you. We progress to whatever level, time, and your abilities allow us to reach. You'll feel ready, after this course.
