Caving & Climbing Courses
Rock On
An introduction to basic rope skills and basic rock climbing. 16 - 18 Hours - 2 to 12 Students
During this course you will learn about ropes and the great variety of equipment available for use when rock climbing and/or doing other rope related sports. We stress safety, discuss safety factors, and many other considerations involved to "keep it safe."
You will learn just a few knots and hitches that will allow you to safely accomplish just about anything, having to do with ropes. You'll learn about basic anchoring, and some "a little bit more complicated." You'll learn about belaying . . . you know the thing that keeps you or your partner from falling! You will learn how to safely and properly rappel, tie-off, and how to change to another rope. You will learn how to do self rescue and how to rescue your partner (for several different situations) should it become necessary. You will also be taught several basic methods of ascending (going back up the rope). Finally, you'll climb. We teach you how to safely and comfortably ROCK CLIMB. You'll learn about smearing, edging, jamming (both hand and toe), lay backs, face climbing, crack climbing, and so much more. You'll learn how to progress smoothly and comfortably while suspended from the relative safety of a top rope. We will allow the students to progress to more strenuous, more difficult routes as they become more comfortable and have "earned their way." We allow you to progress at your own pace. (Note: Woman seem to do better than men at this. They climb intelligently, not just with their muscles). You may be a little sore when this course is over. You'll discover muscles you forgot you had. But, boy will you feel good about yourself. You might have even found a new way to spend vacation.
